A Letter from Karen

Dear Parents,
When I first began teaching, I noticed something that has stayed with me throughout my career.
Some children arrived at school feeling confident, curious and excited to learn. Others arrived anxious, uncertain or already worried that they might not be “good at school.” The difference was rarely intelligence. More often, it was the experiences, encouragement and everyday skills they had developed before they ever walked through the school gates. Throughout my career as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, learning support teacher and university academic, I have seen how important the connection between home and school can be. I created 2 Academic Success because I saw children entering classrooms with needs that had not been addressed at home — often simply because parents had never been shown what really matters. Parents do not need to turn their homes into classrooms. They need clear, practical guidance about how to build confidence, independence, resilience, communication skills and a positive attitude towards learning through everyday family life. No parent should have to wonder whether they are doing enough. Every parent deserves support.
Every child deserves a confident start. I am so glad you are here.
